The 2019 27 inch Imac is probably the best buy in Apple's whole range at the moment. The Fusion Drive isn't a good idea but you knew that already. The lack of the Apple Chip (which is good or bad or both), the upgradable memory (good), the screen (good) and the proven reliability over time all help to give this product value. Soon (?) they will update it, give it smaller bezels, more thunderbird, smaller footprint, apple chip, face recognition and a big big price rise…..

why did you pick the base model vs the mid-tier? Im trying to decide on an iMac myself. I am thinking of going on to get the SSD and upgrade RAM myself. I do some video editing for my channel, some photo editing for fun (hobby), but i hope to make it a part-time job one day.

The wobble is definitely an expanded battery. It might keep expanding so keep it under observation.

I don't think it is fair to compare a desktop (iMac) with a mobile (MacBook). It depends on a user's needs. If you are desk-bound then the iMac is for you but if you are on the move most of the time and sometimes desk-bound then the MacBook is preferred. A more meaningful comparison would be between the Apple operating systems (iOS/MacOS) and Microsoft's (Windows).

The main reason (of two) I don't buy an iMac is that I hope they will sooner than later release an iMac with a larger screen. 27 inches is just too small for 4K, not to mention 5K!
The other reason is cost as here the prices are too high and they have also yet to reduce the upgrade prices of ssd/ram.

I made the same choice relative to portability. Curious about the portable speakers next to your iMac. The built in speakers on the iMac suck. What would you suggest?

I have had a couple MBPs. At one point I used one of them like you did (closed computer w/ external monitor). It bulged and the battery went bad. I do not think it can vent the heat correctly in clam shell mode. My most recent MBP, I do not run in that kind of setup. I have a main machine for external monitor, etc setup and only use my MBP for portability. It has lasted a lot longer then my previous MBP.

One reason I keep my MBP instead of getting an iMac is because I live in a place where there are lots of power outages, so having MBP means I can continue working on battery power.

Still holding onto my my late 2009 iMac (27 inch) runs perfect with a patched version of Mojave!

I did a swap with an iPhone XR, apple watch and a 2017 base model MacBook pro for a 2018 27 inch imac with a 5k display and I love it.

Not quite true. What you can't buy with the iMac is portability. At my company, we just use the Macbook's keyboard and Trackpad. Additionally, we buy 2X 27" monitors for all developers. Each monitor is about 200 USD. AOC brand. So in all, assuming the Macbook is 1,800 USD, then the total is 2K USD. Essentially compared to an iMac, one pays 200 USD more for portability.

I'm not sure 27" 16:9 is the right screensize for me. Plus I prefer upgradability and modularity.
That's why I built a dual boot Hackintosh in a Evolv X case. Best investment ever.

Mijn computer is van mij gestolen een tijdje terug in 2018 is mijn MacBook in december van mijn gestolen door iemand die in Almere wonen in Nederland en heeft mijn Windows laptop gestolen van mijn mijn fototoestel gestolen van mij A37 van Sony en mijn Playstation van mijn gestolen 4 en nativ machine 3
